History

Scooter, a blue and gold Macaw, and his enclosure mate Taco were placed with Safe Haven by their private owner in Idaho. She had rescued 27 Macaws over time, which she kept in her home in a residential neighborhood. Upon realizing she may not be in compliance with local authorities, Scooter and Taco’s owner started working on finding them all new homes.

Scooter is extremely protective of Taco and their cage. Our staff members have to be especially careful when cleaning their cage as Scooter will try to defend it. He is very playful and can often be seen hanging from his swing with one foot. Scooter is a lot bolder than Taco and can be found in different areas of the office. Staff members may find him sitting a chair opposite them during lunch, hoping they’ll share some with him. Other times, when we walk into the room and find him standing on a table or by the window, we automatically know he’s been up to something. Scooter loves peanuts and will let you hand feed them to him.

Scooter has been with us for 8 years.
