Babs
HISTORY
Safe Haven is pleased to receive our first cheetah placement from the Cheetah Species Survival Program. Cheetah Babs is six years old and is housed in the far corner of the small animal section to provide privacy to reduce potential stress. Cheetahs cannot be housed near big cats as lions are naturally a threat to them in the wild. Cheetahs participating in the Specie Survival Program are bred to create a diverse genetic pool to help toward their conservation efforts. Once retired from the program, they are placed in accredited sanctuaries.
ABOUT CHEETAHS
The cheetah is a large cat native to Africa and central Iran. It is the fastest land animal, estimated to be capable of running at 80 to 128 km/h with the fastest reliably recorded speeds being 93 and 98 km/h, and as such has several adaptations for speed, including a light build, long thin legs and a long tail.
