History

Safe Haven had been contacted by Humane Society International to help with the placements of over 100 animals seized from the Edouard Zoo in Quebec.  We agreed to accept both Siberian tiger Capone and white lioness Rose.  The Ed Zoo had closed due to substandard conditions, the animals malnourished and housed in very small cages.

All of the confiscated animals were provided temporary housing by accredited Canadian zoos and sanctuaries until they could be transported to their ”furever” homes in the U.S. Capone is approximately 6 years old.

About Siberian Tigers

Siberian, or Amur, tigers are the largest cats in the world and are considered endangered, with only an estimated population of 400-500 remaining. They primarily live in Russia’s birch forests, with a life span of 10-15 years in the wild, and up to 20 years in captivity. Their survival is mostly threatened by poachers and the illegal trade of tigers and their parts. There are believed to be more privately owned tigers in the U.S. than there are in the wild.
