Tomo

Tomo, born in 2014 and a Safe Haven resident since 2022

HISTORY

Tomo, a male tiger, was retired from the entertainment/film industry in 2022 and placed with Safe Haven for his “retirement” home. When big cats are no longer considered trainable, they can become dangerous to the trainer. Tomo is now enjoying his new 10,000-square-foot habitat, in-ground swimming pool, cozy, heated den, and the promise of lifelong care.

ABOUT SIBERIAN TIGERS

Siberian, or Amur, tigers are the largest cats in the world and are considered endangered, with only an estimated population of 400-500 remaining. They primarily live in Russia’s birch forests, with a life span of 10-15 years in the wild, and up to 20 years in captivity. Their survival is mostly threatened by poachers and the illegal trade of tigers and their parts. There are believed to be more privately owned tigers in the U.S. than there are in the wild.
