Donate Today and Help Us Reach our $100,000 Matching Campaign Goal!

Thanks to several very generous donors, this year we are matching $100,000 – dollar per dollar, doubling your gift between now and December 31st.  Safe Haven knows we can depend on you to meet, and exceed, our match!

Exceeding the match is especially important this year!  Safe Haven expects a high demand for rescues this year as well as high medical expenses. And, additional new habitat construction.

Safe Haven will always continue our rescue mission, will always take those surrendered and confiscated animals who need us most.  Two years ago, however, Safe Haven expanded our mission when we accepted Babs, a retired Cheetah from the AZA Species Survival Plan (SSP). The SSP helps build genetic diversity in captive breeding populations and works to ensure conservation of habitat for wild populations and the reintroduction of individuals bred in captivity.

Meet Umusa:  Cheetah Umusa, a two-year-old female participant in the SSP, is retiring early.  After a devastating injury, and a failed attempt to pin her fractured left, rear leg, amputation was Umusa’s only option.  Her surgery went well and Umusa is recovering, but she is no longer eligible for the SSP program.  Since she is so young, it is especially important that Umusa find the best possible retirement placement, a Safe Haven forever home.  Please help welcome Umusa to her new Safe Haven forever home by doubling your gift when you contribute to our Matching Campaign!

The Cheetah SSP program is important and their retirees deserve only the best!  Like Babs, Umusa will require housing that not only meets her physical needs, but her psychological needs as well.  Umusa will not only be managing the stress of adapting to the loss of her leg and moving to a new home, but housing too near big cats also causes stress to cheetahs.  Safe Haven has been preparing Umusa’s new habitat, including a heated den and mature trees for privacy, in the small animal section far away and visually separated from our big cats.  Lots to complete (and fund!) before her November arrival.  Every donation helps!  Donate now and double your gift during our Matching Campaign!

Safe Haven is excited to help support our wild populations through breeding programs like SSP.  We have had great success with cheetah Babs, and look forward to our second cheetah placement…but Cheetahs are expensive! Cheetahs also require a specialized (and expensive) diet unique to captive cats.  Your matched donation will ensure that Umusa has everything she needs as she transitions to retirement and help more future Safe Haven SSP retirees – please give now!
